 Kathmandu è in fiamme

22 people were murdered by the repressive forces of Nepal after demonstrations erupted yesterday. The protests were triggered by a government arbitrary social media ban, which prohibited several platforms, such as Facebook, X and YouTube. The widespread corruption in the rotten Nepali parliament was also protested. As it was reported by the democratic revolutionary newspaper Moolbato: “For decades, the Nepali people have been humiliated and victimized due to the brokered parliamentary system, widespread corruption, anti-national agreements, and the intervention of foreign powers. The lives of poor peasants, workers, students, and unemployed youth are trapped in a cycle of misery and injustice. Brokers who rely on State power have imposed double and triple taxes, considered an economy filled with remittances as an achievement, and imposed a mountain of inequality, deprivation, and exploitation on the people.

 ”Per decenni, il popolo nepalese è stato umiliato e perseguitato a causa del sistema parlamentare mediato, della corruzione diffusa, degli accordi antinazionali e dell'intervento di potenze straniere. Le vite di contadini poveri, operai, studenti e giovani disoccupati sono intrappolate in un ciclo di miseria e ingiustizia. Gli intermediari che fanno affidamento sul potere statale hanno imposto doppie e triple tasse, hanno considerato un'economia basata sulle rimesse come una conquista e hanno imposto alla popolazione una montagna di disuguaglianze, privazioni e sfruttamento. 

Now the Nepali people have had enough and have directed their class-hatred to the ones who imposed this burden on their shoulders. Since the betrayal of the People’s War in Nepal by Prachanda, the traitors imposed misery, country-selling and exploitation on the Nepali people. KP Sharma Oli, from Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist-Leninist) led the coalition government since the departure of Prachanda on July 2024 and carried out these same anti-people’s measures.

The protests started peacefully and the repressive forces attacked them brutally by using water cannons, batons and firing rubber bullets. The police and soldiers soon started to use live ammunition and murdered many protesters:

"Oggi si sta sviluppando una protesta in tutto il paese, organizzata dalla Gen Z, contro il divieto dei social media imposto dal governo di coalizione guidato da Oli. Durante la protesta, la polizia ha usato cannoni ad acqua, gas lacrimogeni, ha caricato usando lathis [Nota del traduttore: bastoni di legno] e proiettili in varie città del paese, tra cui la valle di Kathmandu. Secondo vari rapporti dei media, 17 giovani manifestanti sono stati assassinati alle 17:15 [Nota del traduttore: come abbiamo detto, ora il bilancio delle vittime è salito a 19 persone]. Centinaia di altri giovani sono rimasti feriti. Innanzitutto, il nostro partito condanna fermamente la repressione della polizia e gli omicidi commessi dal governo Oli sui giovani che protestavano pacificamente. Inoltre, il nostro partito chiede con forza che il governo del Nepal fermi la repressione della polizia, fornisca un adeguato risarcimento alle famiglie dei defunti e fornisca cure gratuite ai feriti". È chiaro che il governo Oli sta diventando estremamente fascista vietando i social media e usando la forza per reprimere i giovani disarmati che protestavano contro di essi. Il nostro Partito si oppone fermamente a questo. .... Il nostro Partito chiede che il divieto sui social media venga revocato immediatamente.

A protest is being organized across the country today, organized by Gen Z, against the ban on social media imposed by the Oli-led coalition government. During the protest, police used water cannons, tear gas, charged using lathis [Translator’s note: sticks made out of wood] and bullets in various cities of the country including the Kathmandu Valley. According to various media reports, 17 protesting youths have been murdered as of 5:15 pm [Translator’s note: as we said, now the death-toll reached 19 people]. Hundreds of other youths have been injured. First of all, our Party strongly condemns the police repression and murders committed by the Oli government on the youths who were protesting peacefully. In addition, our Party strongly demands that the government of Nepal stop the police repression, provide proper compensation to the families of the deceased, and provide free treatment to the injured.

It is clear that the Oli government is becoming extremely fascist by banning social media and using force to suppress unarmed youth who protested against it. Our Party strongly opposes this. It is wrong for the government to suddenly close social media without making laws and regulating social media. Our Party demands that the ban on social media be lifted immediately.

A curfew has been imposed, but thousands of youth took to the streets yesterday, as well as today. No matter how brutal the reaction by the government was, the youth did not stop its protests, but actually increased its justified anger against the government and the Nepali State.

Ieri il primo ministro Oli ha sollevato il blocco dei social e si è dimesso, ma non è bastato. La folla ha attaccato i luoghi e le persone simbolo della corruzione locale: ha dato alle fiamme il parlamento, le residenze di Oli, dei suoi ministri, di ex premier come Jhala Nath Khanal (la cui moglie, ultrasettantenne, è morta per le ustioni); poi è passata agli hotel di lusso come l’Hilton di Kathmandu (di cui la famiglia Oli detiene quote), alle sedi dei media considerati vicini all’establishment, al quartier generale della compagnia telefonica nazionale Ncell, fino alla sede del Nepali congress, il principale partito di opposizione.

 i figli e le figlie dell’élite politica, sugli stessi social network indicati dal governo in carica come fucina di fake news, per anni hanno mostrato senza alcuna remora come vive chi nasce in una famiglia «giusta»: party di lusso, borsette di marca, automobili e orologi esclusivi. Su trenta milioni di abitanti, il 90% utilizza i social e, evidentemente, ha tratto le proprie conclusioni.
